Yayyy … let’s take a carousel ride on the 1981 Fisher Price Change-A-Tune Carousel #170.
This toy is a combination of the FP Merry-Go-Round #111 and the classic FP Music Box Record Player #995. The FISHER PRICE Change-A-Tune has a carousel and a record player that is operated by using a hand crank on the side. No batteries required! Just a little patience and hand coordination. :)
This sale comes with the working carousel and one blue plastic record!
Originally, The set came with three records and three FP little people. The 3 records for the Change-A-Tune are labeled A,B,C. The records were either blue, bright red(or pink) or yellow although A, B or C could be any color.
The carousel has three swinging carousel chairs in the colors of red, purple and blue. The top of the carousel has a more rare variation with blue diamonds around the yellow top. As the carousel moves around, the colors change in the cutouts in the white base portion.
The record(s) are stored underneath the player.
The carousel and record player are operated by a hand crank.
Now, I need to disclose that this carousel is a one-of-a-kind!! I bought this item knowing it was not working and I restored it to a beautiful, working vintage toy! I must say that the most difficult part of the restoration was to clean the original musical piece under the record player. When I bought it, the inside of the toy was dirty and the musical mechanism was rusty! No wonder it would not work! Now it does!! What a project! Yet… I persevered! I learned some too!
It is not perfect as it still shows some slight scuffs and scratches from age and wear.
I am happy to restore this vintage toy to share with a child or collector who may have that same joy of classic Fisher Price toys!
